The juvenile, who is under the age of 18, was arrested on Tuesday, June 6 in connection with a Tolland County street racing incident, or "street takeover," that happened in the town of Tolland on Sunday, May 21.

On the night of the incident, a group of racers and spectators gathered to race cars, perform burnouts, set off fireworks, and more, according to officials.

On the same night as the Tolland incident, similar "street takeovers" happened in Hartford and New Haven counties as well, with more than 200 people participating in illegal events that took place in Berlin and Waterbury.

After their arrest on Tuesday, the unnamed suspect was ordered to juvenile detention and charged with:

  • Second-degree conspiracy to incite a riot;
  • First-degree conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint;
  • Third-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief.

The juvenile is the second person to be arrested in connection to the Tolland incident. The first was 20-year-old Fairfield County resident Jefferson Duron of Norwalk, who allegedly helped lead the illegal events and was caught after state police recognized his vehicle and followed it on Interstate 91.

Three more suspects have also been arrested in connection with the Berlin and Waterbury incidents.

In the aftermath of the incidents, state police have created a statewide tip line for street takeovers. Those with any information, photos, or videos of similar incidents can call 1-800-CALL-FBI and select the “Connecticut Street Takeovers” option, or visit fbi.gov/cttakeovertips.

Those who come across street racing areas are warned to stop, turn around, and find another route in addition to calling 911 immediately.
